When protesters establish a tree stand the platform is connected with a web of ropes to adjoining trees. The theory being that should loggers fell trees in the vicinity of an occupied tree stand harm could come to those in the stand. Signs warn loggers of the tree sitters. The protesters are risking their lives for the trees. Fortunately, premeditated murder is a serious crime in Australia. However, the Ferals continue to suffer beatings and harrassement by loggers and police.
